Lagos, Jan. 10, 2018 (NAN) Two housekeepers, Adam Paul and Solomon Sunday, who allegedly stole their employers’ cash and valuables worth N12million, were on Wednesday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Paul, 24, and Sunday, 25, are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Peter Nwangwu, told the court that the accused committed the offences with others still at large on Oct. 15, 2017, at Adeyemi Lawson Street, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Nwangwu said that the accused, who worked as cleaners for Mrs Aisha Samaila, stole assorted women’s clothes, mobile phones, and a wrist watch.

According to him, other valuables stolen from the complainant’s room and from her tenant’s apartment include jewellery and U.S. dollars, all valued at N12million.

“The accused, who had been working for the complainant for over three years, broke into her room and her tenant’s apartment, making away with the said items.

“The duo was apprehended by the police, and after interrogating them, they could not give satisfactory explanation,” Nwangwu said

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene sections 287, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years jail term for offenders.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Aje Afunwa, granted the accused bail of N500, 000 each with two responsible sureties in like sum.

Afunwa said that one of the sureties should be a blood relation of the accused.

She said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The magistrate adjourned the case until March 19 for mention. (NAN)
