Lagos, Jan. 9, 2018 (NAN) A 37-year-old estate agent, Jegede Toluwa, who allegedly duped a woman of N48,000 on the pretext of procuring a shop for her, was on Tuesday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Toluwa, who resides at No. 15, Ijaye Road, Ogba, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining under false pretence.
The prosecutor, Insp Victor Eruada, told the court that the accused committed the offences in September 2017 at Agege, Lagos.
According to him, the accused collected N48,000 from one Mrs Abimbola Abiola with a promise to procure a shop for her which he never did.
“The accused collected the money and failed to get the shop as promised and he converted the money to his personal use,’’ he said.
The offences, he said, contravened Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 provides 14 years imprisonment for stealing, while Section 314 stipulates 15 years for obtaining credit by false pretence.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs G. O. Anifowoshe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Anifowoshe adjourned the case till Jan. 17 for mention. (NAN)
