Minna, Dec.20, 2017 (NAN) The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Niger Command, has deployed more than 350 personnel with 25 patrol vehicles and two trucks on a 24-hour patrol for the forthcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The Sector Commander, Mr Yusuf Garba, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Wednesday.

Garba said that the command had intensified efforts at monitoring the conduct of road users to prevent road accidents.

He said that the personnel of the corps would ensure that motorists constantly obeyed traffic rules and regulations during and after the festivities.

He urged motorists to adhere to traffic rules and regulations to prevent road accidents.

The sector commander warned motorists against overloading and dangerous driving, stressing that anyone found indulging in the act would be punished in accordance with the extant laws.

He said the command was partnering with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and other stakeholders to educate motorists on the dangers of making calls while driving.

‘‘Our primary concern is to prevent road crashes by mobilising road users to desist from dangerous driving, especially overtaking in sharp bend corners, among others.

‘‘The command will also strengthen its partnerships with sister agencies, the National Union of Road Transport Workers, traffic departments to ensure accident-free celebrations,” he said.

Garba advised parents against allowing their underage children to drive vehicles, saying anyone found violating the law would be penalised. (NAN)
