Ticketing official in court for slashing man’s face with ceramic tile

Lagos, Dec. 20, 2017(NAN) A ticketing official was arraigned in Lagos on Thursday for allegedly using a ceramic tile to slash the face of a customer following a disagreement over parking fee.

The accused, Kazeem Hassan, 34, who resides in Badagry, is facing a two-count charge of assault occasioning harm and unlawful assault before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Cousin Adams, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 19, at Eleganza bus stop, Suru/Alaba along Badagry Expressway.

According to him, the accused was involved in a heated argument with one Lucky Dada over parking fees and in anger used a broken tile to slash Dada’s face.

The accused had also used the broken tile to stab the complainant on his head, hand and leg, causing him bodily injuries, the prosecutor said.

The accused entered a “not guilty” plea.

The offences contravened Sections 173 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 173 prescribes a three-year jail term for offenders while Section411 stipulates a seven year jail term.

The Magistrate, Mrs Helen Omisore, granted the accused N100,000 bail with two responsible sureties in like sum who must show proof of evidence of tax payment to the state government.

She has adjourned the case until Jan. 29, 2018 for mention. (NAN)
