Dutse, Sept. 16, 2016 (NAN) The Jigawa Government on Friday said it had stocked Warwade Dam in Dutse Local Government with 300,000 fingerlings to enhance fish production in the area.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Kabiru Ali, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.

Ali said the fingerlings were sourced within the country.

He said fishing gears such as nets, hooks, fishing containers and four canoes were also procured and distributed to fishermen in the area.

The commissioner noted that the gesture was part of the state government’s efforts to resuscitate fishing activities in the area.

According to him, it is also to improve availability of fish in Dutse and its environs.

Ali said the gesture would boost fishing activities among the people of the community.

He said it would also empower them to contribute meaningfully to the economic growth of their families, communities and the state.

He said it would make fishing attractive and reduce urban-rural migration among youths. (NAN)
