Lagos, Nov. 28, 2017 (NAN) A six-year-old player, Adejuwon Ogunsakin, on Tuesday in Lagos at the ongoing 49th Asoju Oba Table Tennis Championships dazzled fans with his performance in the competition’s cadet category.
The young player defeated 12-year-old Samyak Sharam of Indian Language School in Lagos 2-0, displaying good skills in her rallies and use of fore hand and back hand.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sharam succumbed to the powerful rallies of Ogunsakin who is the youngest player in the ongoing championships.
The youngster who dominated the game all through the cadet boys singles game told NAN that it was her first time of taking part in any major championship.
“I am happy with the victory and I want to play and win more matches in the competition,’’ he said.
The player said he started playing table tennis earlier this year at the Adura Table Tennis Hall in Sango-Ota.
“I developed interest playing table tennis, watching Azeez Solanke and other players who used to come to the hall to train at the weekends.
“I want to play like Solanke and other big stars in the nearest future,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, in some of the matches played Tuesday, Akanbi Rilwan defeated Ololade Oyenekan 3-0, while Azeez Solanke defeated Ishiaka Balogun in the men’s singles category.
NAN reports that 336 players are taking part in the championships.
The competition which started on Monday is taking place at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos and end on Friday.(NAN)
