Lagos, Nov. 23, 2017 (NAN) A 29-year-old unemployed man, Kingsley Uchena, who allegedly defrauded one Mr Ifeanyi Usulor of N750,000, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Uchena, who resides at 18, Ademola St., Agege, is facing a charge of obtaining by false pretenses.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Raji Akeem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 4, at Alakuko, a suburb of Lagos.
Akeem said the accused fraudulently collected N750, 000 from the complainant to supply him with some goods that he would start trading on.
“After collecting the money, the accused switched off his cell phone and disappeared until he was sighted by the complainant in Agege.
The complainant raised the alarm and he was apprehended by passers-by, who handed him to the police,’’ he said.
Akeem said the offence contravened Section 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mr T. O Shomade, granted the accused bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
Shomade also ruled that the accused should pay N20, 000 into the court registrar’s account, as part of the bail condition.
He adjourned the case until Dec. 11, for mention. (NAN)
