Driver appears in court for alleged theft

Lagos, Nov. 23, 2017 (NAN) A 32- year –old company driver, Ajokwu Augustine, who allegedly stole his employee’s N1.562,204 million, on Thursday, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The defendant, who resides at 13, Ifelodun St., Bada, Ipaja, a suburb of Lagos, is being tried for stealing.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp Raji Akeem, told the court that the accused committed the offence between September and  November at Jumia Nigeria Limited, Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja.

Akeem said that the defendant would have to remit N1. 562, 204 million into the company’s account from the proceeds of the sales he had made.

He explained that during auditing, the company discovered that the defendant had converted the money to his personal use.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr T. O Shomade, granted the defendant bail of N1, 562, 204 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case to Dec. 11 for mention. (NAN)
