Lagos, Oct. 23, 2017 (NAN) Mr Ayo Olumoko, a tourism consultant, has appealed to the Federal Government to adequately fund the Nollywood industry, to further enhance the development of the entertainment sector.

Olumoko, who is the organiser of the Osun-Oshogbo annual festival, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday.

He said that revenue from the industry could boost the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

According to him, the Nollywood industry, if adequately funded, could boost Nigeria’s tourism image through the showcasing of the nation’s beautiful heritage sites.

He said that the industry projects the nation’s enormous culture, tradition and beliefs, which cut across different tribes, thus making foreign viewers to show interest in Nigeria.

Olumoko noted that Nollywood industry was growing very fast, adding that government’s involvement in the industry would bring about positive turnaround in the entertainment world.

He, however, urged the government to provide soft loans for movie producers to produce more movies and improve on the quality of their products.

“The Nollywood industry has tried over the years to project our rich, envied culture and heritage sites to the international scene.

“Government should be involved to make it bigger and better; they should provide soft loans to movie producers with very friendly interest rates, so that the quality of our movies can be improved upon.

“As a country, we have gotten global attention through our movies.

“But if we including private sector and government can further support the sector financially, Nigerian entertainment sector will become very viable,” he said. (NAN)
