Ilorin, Oct. 5, 2017 (NAN) Members of the Joint Health sector Unions (JOHESU), Universuty of llorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) branch on Thursday suspended their three weeks strike over poor conditions of service.
The UITH branch Chairman of JOHESU, Mr Olutunde Oluwawawumi, announced the suspension of the strike while addressing hundreds of the striking workers at a congress meeting in llorin on Thursday.
The chairman directed all categories of health workers with the UITH to resume work on Friday.
Oluwawumi lamented that the management of UITH has been paying an “amputated arrears’’.
“Since the resuumption of the current Chief Medical Director a payment of arrears of workers’ salaries and allowances have been amputated in nature,” the chairman said.
However, he directed his members to resume work, assuring that the union will address all their grievances with the management.
The chairman said the union would not allow payment of arrears only on basic salary without inclusion of shift allowance and overtime allowance, among others.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the national body of JOHESU under the leadership of Mr Josiah Biobelemoye on Sept. 20 declared a nationwide strike t press home their demands for improved condition of service and facilities in public health institutions. (NAN)
