Court jails security guard found with electric pipes at midnight

Abuja, Sept. 22, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Friday, sentenced a security guard, Ezra Iorbee, to three months in prison for stealing bundles of electric pipes.

Iorbee, 30, of Anguwan Cement village, Abuja, was sentenced on one-count charge of theft by servant.

The presiding officer, Abubakar Sadiq, gave the sentence after Iorbee pleaded guilty to the charge.

Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of N5,000 fine, and warned him to desist from committing further crime.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Dalhatu Zannah, had told the court that a crime prevention unit led by Insp. Ogah David arrested Iorbee and brought him to Life Camp Police Station, Abuja.

Zannah said that the team caught the security guard at about 12 a.m. on Sept. 17 at Anguwan Cement village, Abuja, with five bundles of electric pipes, suspected to be stolen.

He added that police investigation revealled that the convict stole the pipes from a construction site where he was employed as security guard.

He told the court that the convict dishonestly stole the electric pipes which he was asked to safeguard.

The prosecutor said the convict had confessed that he stole the pipes with the intention of selling it
at the rate of N12,000, an offence against Section 289 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
