Theft
By Amen Gajira
Minna, Sept. 22, 2017 (NAN) A Magistrates’ Court in Minna on Friday sentenced a 25-year-old security guard, Haruna Abdullahi, to three months in prison for stealing electric cable.
Abdullahi was arraigned on one-count charge of theft, contrary to Section 288 of the penal code.
The prosecutor, Terungwa Iornem, told the court that the matter was reported by Hassan Yusuf of Mustapha Stores, Shiroro Minna, on Sept. 13
Iornem said Yusuf hired Abdullahi as security guard in his store about three months ago.
He added that instead of Abdullahi to protect his employer’s properties, he stole electric cable and 10 pieces of aluminum frame doors, all valued at N200,000.
When the charge was read to him, he pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.
The prosecutor thereafter prayed the court to try him summarily in line with Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
In her ruling, Magistrate Sa’adatu Gambo sentenced Yusuf to three months in prison.
He, however, gave the convict an option to pay N30,000 fine. (NAN)
