Lagos, Sept. 18, 2017 (NAN) Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Ag. CP Edgal Imohimi, on Monday charged Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders to reach out to their communities for effective policing of their areas.
The police commissioner gave the charge during a Town-Hall Stakeholders Security Meeting hosted by the Area ‘C’ Commander, ACP Wale Abass, at Kafaru Tinubu Building, Surulere, Lagos.
“Area commanders and DPOs should visit the people, the mosques, churches, associations and other groups in their communities to ask for their security challenges and help provide solution.
“In the same vein, groups should also invite DPOs to their meetings in the community.
“It is important for DPOs to periodically review the security in their areas which cannot be done by sitting in the office but by on-the-spot visits,’’ Imohimi said.
The Lagos police commissioner commended the Area “C’’ Command and its residents for maintaining peace in the area and urged everyone to be vigilant for continuous safety.
He, however, frowned at the growing cases of cultism among youths and urged parents and guardians to prevail on their children to shun cultism.
“Where were we as parents when the youths were going into cultism: I enjoin you to utilize various available platforms to condemn cultism among our youths.
“They should be carrying their books, pen and holy books as it is a crime to brandish arms and whoever does so risks being arrested by the police.” the CP said.
Earlier, Area “C’’ Commander, ACP Wale Abass, said that the command would continue to strengthen relationship with security stakeholders and assured residents of adequate security in the community.
“The Area ‘C’ Command has continued to have meaningful engagement with PCRC, CDAs vigilante groups, traditional rulers, business, political and youth leaders within the command.
“In accordance with CP Imohimi’s thrust on intelligence policing, Area “C’’ Command has adopted proactive security measures which includes foot and vehicular patrols as well as raids on black spots and criminal hideouts,” Abass said. (NAN)
