Abuja, Sept. 18, 2017 (NAN) A Grade 1 Area Court in Karshi, Abuja, on Monday sentenced three men, who specialised in stealing cars within the FCT and its environs, to seven months imprisonment each.
The convicts- Abubakar Abdulkarim, Usman Bello and Ibrahim Abubakar, all pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of joint act, theft and being in possession of property suspected to be stolen.
They pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.
The Judge, Mr Hassan Ishaq, however, gave them an option to pay N20, 000 fine each.
Ishaq also ordered the police to locate the owners of the recovered vehicles in order to release the vehicles to them.
The Prosecutor, John Ijabgbemi, had told the court that the police in August received reliable information concerning the defendants.
Ijabagbemi said the police acted on the tip-off and commenced investigation which revealed that the defendants were in possession of eight cars which were stolen.
“The cars are five Toyota Camry cars, one opel car, one Honda Civic car and one Golf car,’’ the prosecutor said.
He said investigations revealed that the defendants were in the habit of coming into the FCT from their respective locations to steal vehicles.
He also said that the defendants succeeded in stealing the vehicles from different parts of Abuja using fabricated master keys which were recovered from them.
He said that the eight cars were recovered where they were parked in their rented apartment in the FCT.
.
He said the offences contravened Sections 79, 319 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
