Motorcyclist

Lagos, Aug. 23, 2017 (NAN) A 31-year-old motorcyclist, Ndubisi Ogana, who allegedly ran into a pole while trying to escape with a snatched handbag, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Ogana, who resides in Abule-Egba area of Lagos, is facing a charge of stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, said the accused committed the offence on Aug. 1, at Ajiboye Bus-Stop, Agege, Lagos.
Eruada said that the accused attacked the complainant, Mrs Eunice Oladele, and snatched her handbag containing a cell phone worth N7,000 and a cash of N3,500.
He said the accused who was on a motorcycle, snatched the handbag of the complainant who was waiting to board a vehicle.
“The complainant raised the alarm, which attracted the attention of some sympathisers who chased the accused.
“The accused, who was trying to escape, hit a pole and fell off his motorcycle, which led to his arrest,” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes a three-year jail term for an offender.
The Magistrate, Mrs G.O. Anifowoshe, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Aug. 30 for trial. (NAN)
