24th ARCHIBUILT conference to review standard in building industry

Abuja, Aug. 18, 2017 (NAN) The 24th edition of ARCHIBUILT conference and exhibition will review building materials standard and method employ in construction technology with a view to prevent building collapse.
Mr John Ewule, the Coordinator, ARCHIBUILT 2017 made this known on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
According to him, till date the Nigerian housing excess persists and recent reports of numerous collapse building are indications of the need for consistent review and evaluation of materials used.
“There is need to review the method employed in the industry and to ensure continuous training of the professionals to enhance the sector.
The convener noted that the event, which would exhibit building material and construction technologies, was also aimed at highlighting the efforts of the professionals and indigenous manufacturers.
“It will also highlight the efforts of retailers and the regulators to address issues in the ever-expanding development and construction sector.
“It will feature sessions and discussions on Housing Finance, Development of Construction Technology in Nigeria as well as requirements to achieve green ratings for materials and buildings.
Green Building (also known as green construction or sustainable building) refers to both a structure and the application of processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building’s life-cycle.
Ratings and certification system help to define a green building in the market; they inform how environmentally sound a building is by providing clarity.
On this note, Ewule stated that the 2017 edition of the exhibition would address these issues in the sector by featuring a training workshop on Health, Safety and Environment.
He said that speakers at the event would include professionals from the Bank of Industry, Green Council of Nigeria, Industry regulators, architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, builders and other stakeholders in the industry.
The event is being hosted by the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) from Aug. 21 to Aug. 24, 2017 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja with the theme: “Promoting the Development of Building Materials and Services for the Nigerian Market”.
The highlight of the exhibition will be a student’s design competition on the use of clay products for building and an Autodesk certification for the professionals. (NAN)
