Ilorin, July 2017 (NAN) Prof. Abdulwaheed Olatinwo, Chief Medical Director, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), says regular engagement in sports is key to healthy living.
Olatinwo, who made the assertion on Tuesday in Ilorin when he received members of the Kwara Executive Council of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), said sports and health had symbiotic relationship.
The chief medical director said that sports were a unifying factor which he had been used to achieve industrial harmony in the hospital.
According to him, sports has been used to bring all professional bodies together in the hospital through monthly jogging and has helped to resolve inter-professional rivalries among the workers.
Olatinwo also disclosed that the UITH Football Club, Injectors, was doing well in the Nigeria Nationwide League ((NNWL) and hoped that it would soon gain promotion to the professional league.
He promised to continue to support sports development in the hospital and the state, promising to sustain the synergy with SWAN in promoting sports for healthy living.
Earlier, the Kwara Chairman of SWAN, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Bibire, said the visit was to honour the medical director for his contributions to sports development.
Bibire, who conveyed the decision of SWAN executive members to appoint the CMD as one of its Patrons, enjoined him not to relent in promoting sports to ensure sound minds and physical fitness. (NAN)
