Abuja, July 10, 2017 (NAN) The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) on Monday began the training of 23 students from Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon on African Peace Building Innovation for Change.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the students are undergoing two weeks training for a certificate course in peace building under the sponsorship of the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) in collaboration with IPCR.

The course, which is being run by the IPCR’s National Peace Academy and the ISS’s African Centre for Peace Studies and Training, has six Nigerians, six Ghanaians and 13 Cameroonians as participants.

The Director-General of IPCR, Prof. Oshita Oshita said that African youths needed programming experience to prepare them toward useful contribution to the society as game changers in the continent.

Oshita said it was high time the capacity of the youths was developed so they could fit well into leadership responsibility for the good of Africans and the world.

He urged the participants to see the training as a unique opportunity.

Mrs Golda Keng, the Programme Manager, ISS’s African Centre for Peace Studies and Training, said that ISS was a Pan-African think-tank and non-profit organisation that had been involved in improving human security in Africa.

Keng said that ISS had been working with UN, AU, governments, strategic agencies and civil societies among others to impact policy change, better skills and accountability in Africa.

She said that it had been training the police, investigators, judicial workers, peace builders on conflict analysis and prevention.

The manager said that IPCR and ISS were in partnership to promote peace, robust human security and better delivery in Nigeria and Africa.

ISS, according to her, has offices in Ethiopia, South Africa, Senegal, Abidjan and Kenya.

Coordinator of the IPCR’s academy, Dr Bose Awoodola enjoined state governments, organisations and individuals to avail themselves the opportunity provided by IPCR to train themselves and their employees

She said that this was to mainstream peace generally in the entire system for sustainability in the country.

Awoodola said that the institute had enough capacities to meet the demands of governments, organisations and individuals in peace building, peacemaking and conflict management. (NAN)
