Ilorin, July 10, 2017 (NAN) The management of University of Ilorin (Unilorin) on Monday promised to support the organisers of the maiden edition of Joint Admissions and Matriculation (JAMB)/Tertiary Institutions football competition.
Unilorin’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniy Ambali, while speaking during a courtesy visit to his office by the competition’s organisers, said the support would be in providing accommodation and other facilities.
The Director of Sports, Prof. Olawale Obiyemi, who represented Ambali, said the institution would make the facilities available, and also ensure the success of the competition.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 16 higher education institutions, including Unilorin, have qualified to participate in the competition’s finals holding in August this year.
The institutions cut across universities, polytechnics, Colleges of Education and the initiative entrepreneur institutions.
Ambali commended JAMB and its Registrar, Prof. Ish’aq Oloyede, for introducing the competition, which he said was to further promote unity among the institutions.
Kale Ayo, who is Chairman of the competition’s Main Organising Committee (MOC), had earlier sought for Unilorin’s support in hosting a befitting competition.
Ayo, who is the Kwara State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, added that the university had shown it has the capacity to host big events.
“Hosting the National Youth Games in 2016 has shown that the university has all it takes to host such big events,’’ he said.
Ayo said this has shown that University of Ilorin has been contributing to the development of sports in Nigeria.(NAN)
