Remand

Lagos, July 10, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded two men, Tunde Obasola and Idris Saka, in Kirikiri Prisons after they pleaded guilty to armed robbery.
The chief magistrate, Mrs B. O. Osunsanmi, who gave the ruling, said the accused should remain behind bars pending sentencing.
The accused, whose addresses were not disclosed in court, are facing charges of conspiracy and armed robbery.
The prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Imhonwa, had told court that the accused committed the offences at about 8.00 p.m. on Feb. 18 at No. 1, Redemption Camp, Ilamoye Street in Ijeshatedo, Surulere area of Lagos State.
He said that the accused conspired with others still at large and robbed one Kikelomo Oluwawemimo of properties valued at N415,000 at gunpoint.
Imhonwa said the accused, who were armed with a locally- made-double barrel gun, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, robbed the complainant of her two mobile phones, a laptop, a generator and a flash drive, all valued at N415,000.
He alleged that the complainant, who was in her shop, was attacked by the accused, by pointing a gun at her.
“Oluwawemimo was accosted by the accused that came with a gun and robbed her of the said items valued at N415, 000.
“They were later apprehended by the police at Ipaja area of Lagos State while trying to dispose the stolen items.”
Imhonwa said the accused were apprehended during a stop-and-search by a team of anti-crime police.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 296 and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused may be sentenced to 21 years’ imprisonment if convicted, according to Section 296 of the Criminal Law.
The case was adjourned until Aug. 9 for a review of facts and sentencing. (NAN)
