Mangu (Plateau) May 25, 2017 (NAN) Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau has advised NYSC members to pay attention to the scheme’s skill acquisition programme so as to acquire practical knowledge that could be useful in future.
“The scheme runs a skill acquisition programme during the three weeks orientation which I believe you will find useful in future. Please, take it seriously,” Lalong said on Thursday in Mangu, at the corps members’ swearing-in ceremony.
Represented by his Deputy, Prof. Sonni Tyoden, Lalong drew the corps members attention to the growing unemployment rate, and described it as a major problem facing the Nigerian youth.
“Millions of youths are out there searching for non-existent white collar jobs. Those of you with alternative skills will not join that search because you would have prepared yourselves for self-employment,” he said.
He advised corps members to also visit the micro/small enterprise clinic for more knowledge on small business registration and access to soft loans.
The governor assured corps members of safety in Plateau, stating that that the crises that enveloped the state in the past was already history.
In her remarks, Plateau NYSC coordinator Fumilayo Akin-Moses advised corps members to participate fully in camp activities so as to prepare themselves for the service year.
Akin-Moses urged them to participate in the various skill acquisition programmes to prepare for life after the service year.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 2,771 corps members, comprising 1,277 males and 1,494 females, were registered as at the close of that exercise on Wednesday, May 24. (NAN)
