Lagos, May 17, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on Wednesday granted bail to a 32-year-old unemployed man, Oluwafemi Falulade, who allegedly damaged a vehicle and stole some items.
Falulade, of no fixed address, entered a `not-guilty’ plea to the charge of damage and stealing.
The accused, who was granted N10,000 bail, would also produce two sureties as part of the bail condition.
The Magistrate, Mrs Y.O Ekogbule said the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Clement Okuoimose, the accused committed the offences on May 8, at Iju, Agege, Lagos.
He said that the accused damaged a Ford transit bus of Mr Stanley Ugwu by rendering it useless.
“The accused damaged the bus engine valued at N250,000, two rear lights worth 12,000 and front door glass valued N25,000, all amounting to N287,000.
“He stole a battery valued at N37,000 and a motor tyre worth N20,000. Total items destroyed and stolen were N344,000,” he said.
The offence contravened section 287 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section 287 prescribes three years jail term for a person convicted of stealing, while section 350 prescribes two years for damage.
The case was adjourned till May 25 for mention. (NAN)
