Lagos, May, 17, 2017 (NAN) The National Museum, Onikan, Lagos, will be opened to the general public on Thursday, May 18, on the 2017  International Museum Day for them to appreciate the artifacts and other  there.

Nigerians will also  learn more about their  history, arts and culture, said  Mrs Edith Ekunke, the Curator, National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM),Lagos.

She told  the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that it would be an open- day for the public without ant financial commitments from them.

Nigerians would benefit from the museum’s repository of knowledge and archival materials, Ekunke said.

“Come and see that the museum is not a place for fetish materials and nobody worships these materials, they are there for educational purpose.

“This is an opportunity opened to all because we charge for all other days except the international museum day.

“ The foreigners value what we have in the museum as they spend fortune just to come in and know about our history.

“ We want to ensure that Nigerians know about their history because if you do not know enough about your history, how do you plan for the future,” Ekunke said.

She said that Nigerians should visit the museum and acquire knowledge as regards the history of the country which cuts across all ethnic groups and tribes.

She said that the museum officials would be on ground to explain the history and relevance of each artifact, monolith and antiquity to those that would be around.

“We will throw our doors open tomorrow for everyone interested in learning about their history to come in and my officials will be on ground to put them through.
