Lagos, April 26, 2017 (NAN) A woman, Miracle Igwe, who allegedly stole her employer’s N1.1 million, was on Wednesday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Miracle, who resides at Block 6, Flat 3, New Diary Farm Estate, Agege, a Lagos suburb, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Donjor Perezi, told the court that the accused committed the offences together with some others still at large on Feb. 28 at Computer Village, Ikeja.
Perezi said that the accused was employed by Mrs Peace Emeka to her business.
“The accused stole the money and the complainant’s documents, and absconded.
“ The complainant reported the matter to the police after her efforts to reach the accused on her cell phone proved abortive.
“Miracle was later apprehended by the police through the help of her neighbours,’’ he said.
Perezi said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes three years imprisonment for convicted thieves.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Chief Magistrate O.A. Layinka granted her bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Layinka said that the sureties should show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until May 2 for mention. (NAN)
