Berlin, March 16, 2017 (dpa/NAN) German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble and new U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Thursday in Berlin said that they had found a common ground during their first meeting.

“We have found a good basis to speak completely openly with each other, although of course not all issues had yet been solved.

“There was a clear agreement to cooperate and look for solutions together,’’ Schaeuble said.

Mnuchin said it was a very positive meeting covering a broad range of issues.

“It is not our desire to get into trade wars, U.S. President Donald Trump believes in free trade, but it also has to be fair.

`Our main objective is economic growth.

“It is important for countries not to manipulate their currencies,’’ he said.

The meeting comes ahead of a G20 gathering of international finance ministers and central bankers on Friday and Saturday in the south-western German town of Baden-Baden. (dpa/NAN)
