Speed-breakers
Bauchi, March 16, 2017 (NAN) Mr Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of Power,Works and Housing, has urged the Bauchi State Government to remove speed breakers on the highways to avert accidents.
Fashola made the call when he visited the Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Mr Nuhu Gidado, in Bauchi on Thursday.
He said speed-breakers could endanger lives of motorists as a result of needless accidents.
The minister stressed the need for the government to apply modern road traffic management and control in place of such speed breakers.
He advised that the state government should also relocate business premises encroaching on the right of ways.
Fashola said Federal Government had embarked on construction of houses for civil servants, adding that the number of houses to be constructed will depend on the size of land provided by the state.
Responding, the deputy governor explained that speed breakers were to force motorists to slowdown because of fatal accidents in the past.
He urged the minister to involve the Federal Road Safety in checking speed of motorists on the highways.
Gidado said the state government would not hesitate to allocate land for the provision of houses for civil servants.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that work is ongoing on six federal roads across the state and at different stages of completion. (NAN)
