Man absconds with hire purchase motorcycle

Lagos, March 2, 2017 (NAN) Yusuf  Babatunde, a 33-year-old, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly absconding with a N180, 000 motorcycle he acquired on hire purchase.

Babatunde, a resident of Gbeminiyi Street, Agbado-Ijaye, a Lagos suburb, is facing a charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Rita Momoh, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 10 at Block 1, Police Barracks, Olosa in Mushin area of Lagos.

According to her, the accused bolted with the motorcycle valued at N180, 000l, property of the complainant, Mr Emmanuel Bello.

“The complainant gave the accused the motorcycle on a hire purchase agreement to deliver N1, 000 daily.

“Immediately the accused collected the motorcycle he disappeared.

“He was arrested after a week, claiming the motorcycle was stolen,” she said.

The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011 which prescribes three years jail term for offenders.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The Magistrate, Mr M.K.O. Fadeyi, adjourned the case to March 13 for mention. (NAN)
