Lagos, March 1, 2017(NAN) A 20-year-old factory worker, Aminu Abubakar, who allegedly stole his employer’s N80,000 mobile phone, was on Wednesday charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court .
Abubakar, whose address is unknown, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb. 21 in Agege area of Lagos.
He said the accused and two others still at large conspired and stole the mobile phone valued at N80,000 belonging to Mr Omoya Levi.
“The accused stole his employer’s Samsung phone which he kept in his drawer; he sneaked into the complainant’s office, stole the phone and disappeared.
“Someone who sighted him sneaking into the office told the complainant when he raised an alarm that his phone had been stolen.
“The accused later confessed to stealing the phone which he said he has sold to his friend (Mohammed Salaudeen) for N15,000,” Nwosu said.
The offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 409 stipulates two years for conspiracy, while Section 285 prescribes a three-year jail term for stealing.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr A.A. Adesanya, in his ruling, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to March 13 for mention. (NAN)
