Lagos, Feb. 27, 2017 (NAN) A 35-year-old motorcyclist, Monsuru Akande, who allegedly sold five motorcycles kept in his possession, was on Monday docked at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The accused, who resides at Maysan Road, Ogbere, Atan-Ota in Ogun, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
He, however, denied the charges preferred against him.
The prosecutor, Insp. Ezekiel Ayorinde told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 15, 2015 at Agbado area of Ogun.
According to him, the accused conspired with others still at large to sell five Bajaj motorcycles which were kept in his custody without the owner’s approval.
He said that the motorcycles, valued at N640, 000, belong to the complainant, one Akintan Tunde.
“The complainant reported that he gave the motorcycles to Akande on hire purchase, but the accused sold them and converted the proceeds to his own personal use,’’ Ayorinde said.
He alleged that the accused absconded until he was recently apprehended by the police.
The offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 stipulates a three- year jail term for stealing, while Section 409 provides two years for conspiracy.
The Magistrate, Mrs Omolade Awope, granted the accused bail in the sum of N150, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Awope said the sureties must be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case to March 13 for mention. (NAN)
