NIMC captures 200,000 Niger residents in database

Minna, Feb.21, 2017 ( NAN) About 200,000 Niger residents have been captured into the data base of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in Minna.
Mrs Mary Makama, Coordinator of the commission in the state, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Tuesday.
She said that the commission had set up offices in the metropolis and higher institutions in the state to enable residents to participate in the ongoing registration.
Makama explained that lack of constant power supply was, however, hindering the exercise.
She said that out of the 25 local governments in the state, only 13 had functional offices.
“We have reached out to the affected councils to provide office accommodations and we will deploy our officers and equipment for the commencement of the exercise.”
She also seeks the support of mass media in educating Nigerians on the need to participate in the exercise which is free of charge.
She said banks now asked of National Identity Number as requirement to open an account.
“We will continue to reach out to stakeholders, especially religious and traditional rulers, to mobilise their followers on the need to come forward and registered. (NAN)
