Lagos, Feb. 10, 2017 (NAN) A Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday sentenced a 25-year-old carpenter, Ahmed Yusuf, to three years imprisonment for drug trafficking.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) dragged Yusuf to court for peddling hemp.

He was first arraigned on Nov. 3 last year and he pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Justice Chuka Obiozor, had then adjourned the case for a review of facts.

At the resumed hearing of the case, the Prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, tendered several documents in court as exhibits.

The exhibits include a statement of the accused, a test analysis form, a request for scientific aid form, a forensic analysis form and other bulk exhibits.

The items were admitted by the court and marked exhibits.

Delivering his judgment, Obiozor found the accused guilty of the offence as charged.
He accordingly, sentenced Yusuf to three years imprisonment, beginning from the date of his arrest.

In his plea for mercy, the accused, who had no legal representation, had begged the court to show him mercy, being a first offender.

Yusuf said he would never engage in such a crime if given a second chance.

In the charge sheet, the prosecutor said that the convict was arrested on Aug. 30 last year in Agege, near Lagos with about 900g of Cannabis Sativa.

He said that the convict sold the narcotic to his customers.

The offence is said to have contravened the provisions of Section 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004. (NAN)
