Wife
By Blessing Ibegbu
Mararaba (Nasarawa State), Feb. 10, 2017 (NAN) A 31-year-old hair stylist, Safiya Jibrin,
on Friday, asked the Upper Area Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, to dissolve her marriage because her husband beats and threatens her, and has untreated gonorrhea.
In a petition she filed seeking the dissolution of her nine years marriage with her husband, Sa’id Tijanni, the woman also alleged that the man’s attitude to her and their sex life was negative.
She said they have two children but the marriage had not been conducive since 2010
because the husband had contracted gonorrhea and refused to treat it.
She said “I went to so many people seeking solution and cure for his gonorrhea and was
ready to pay for his medication but he remained adamant.’’
The petitioner explained that she had been facing domestic violence throughout the nine years she spent with her husband and was not ready to tolerate it anymore.
She added that “my husband beats me at every slight provocation and always threatens to take my life.
“He often says it will not take him up to 30 minutes to kill me and nobody from my family will question him.
“Most time, he does not even keep money for feeding or upkeep and has finally stopped feeding me and the children.’’
She complained that “what pains me most is that my husband refused to pay condolence visit to my people when my parents died.’’
She, therefore, pray the court to dissolve the marriage as she was no longer interested in it.
She also requested that the court should grant her custody of the two children.
The respondent was, however, not in court even though he was served hearing notice.
The Judge, Mr Ibrahim Shekarau, after listening to the woman’s complains, however,
adjourned the case until Feb. 22 to give the couple more time for possible resolution and
reunion. (NAN)
