Abuja, Sept. 21, 2016 (NAN) No fewer than 300 power experts from America, Europe, Asia and Nigeria will converge on Abuja in October to discuss and address the power issues in the country.

This is contained in a post on the Powering Africa Nigeria Website in London and accessed by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.
Powering Africa Nigeria, the organisers of the meeting, will host the summit with the support of the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing.

It said that the meeting had been endorsed by the Bayelsa State Government, the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, the Electricity Commission of Nigeria and the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

The organisers said that National Power Training Institute of Nigeria and the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission had also endorsed the meeting.

According to the statement, the meeting will attract leading investors to meet with Nigeria’s government to address the power situation.

The statement said that the organisers appreciated the scale of the opportunities in Nigeria and realised that it was now time to understand the priorities and pace of development.
“In the last 12 months, Nigeria’s electricity sector has been transformed with the arrival of Minister Babatunde Fashola, Minister for Power, Works and Housing.

“The sector has been transformed by Fashola who has set out clearly his intention to break down the barriers to investment in the country’s energy sector.

“Following President Buhari’s lead to tackle bottlenecks and inefficiencies, the minister has embarked on a strategy to get the distribution companies working.

“The strategy is to provide support and regular interactions with the privately held companies that have worked tirelessly to build the electricity backbone of Nigeria.’’

NAN reports that Nigeria is currently the second largest economy in Africa and is poised to become the largest market in Africa for Independent Power Producers (IPPs) projects. (NAN)
