3 men charged with assaulting apprentice with iron rod, N150, 000 theft

Lagos, March 22, 2017  (NAN) Three men, who allegedly assaulted an apprentice, Kehinde Balogun, by hitting his eyes with iron rod and beating him to a pulp, were on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The accused — Adebayo Saheed, 29, a transporter, lives at Obawole area of Iju-Ishaga, Lagos; Yahusa Abubakar, 47, a trader; and Rilwan Kazeem, 42, a driver, both residents of  Alagbado area of Ogun.

The accused are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and assault.

According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Joseph Ajebe, the accused and nine others still at large hit the complainant with an iron rod several times over allegations of theft.

Ajebe told the court that the incident occurred on March 8 at 5.00 a.m. at Ajegunle Market, Alagbado.

He said the complainant, an apprentice to Saheed, was allegedly beaten with iron rod causing him grievous harm,

Ajebe said the complainant alleged that the accused tore his clothes and stole his N150,000 and two phones valued at N40,000.

The offences contravened Sections 171 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.‎ (NAN)

The trio, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Alexander Komolafe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until March 29 for further hearing. (NAN)
