Stealing

Lagos, Feb. 13, 2017(NAN) Two men, Aminu Abdullahi and Hamsat Lawal, on Monday appeared at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for unlawfully entering into a shop and stealing items worth N42,000.
Abdullahi, 19, a mechanic, resident at Ashafa Street, Mile 2 and Lawal, 18, an unemployed, who resides at Apapa, Lagos are being tried for unlawful entry, conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the defendants and others now at large, committed the offences on Jan. 29 on Asipa Road, Ayobo, Lagos.
The defendant entered the shop of the complainant and stole his electronic items.
According to him, the items stolen included, one tiger generator, five pieces of blenders and one pressing iron, all valued at N42,000.
Okuoimose said that while the complainant was busy in his inner shop, the defendants stole from the shop.
He added that the complainant raised an alarm and two of the defendants were apprehened, while the others escaped with the stole items.
The offences, he said, contravened Sections 285, 306 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes a three-year jail term for convicted offenders.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the offences and were granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs Y.O. Ekogbule, however, adjourned the case until March 1, for mention. (NAN)
