Yobe Legion realise N20m at emblem launch

Damaturu, Jan. 4, 2018 (NAN) Over N20 million was realised on Thursday at the launching of the 2018 Armed Forces Remembrance and Emblem Appeal Week in Damaturu, Yobe.
The state governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, while launching the fund, announced a N12 million donation by the State Government and a personal donation of N1 million.
Gaidam lauded efforts of the security forces in protecting the sovereignty and internal security of the country and urged people to donate generously to the welfare of the ex-service men and their families.
“It is a known fact that without the Nigeria armed forces and other security agencies, the state and indeed, the nation could have been overrun by insurgents.
“We therefore have to pay glowing tribute to them for securing the state and for the supreme sacrifice which they made to enable us to live in peace,’’ he said.
Legislators, members of the state executive council, chief executives of boards and parastatals and other individuals also donated to the fund.
Retired Capt. Ibrahim Gadine, State Chairman of the Legion, lauded the governor for fulfilling all pledges made by government and appealed for allocation of land for members to engage in agricultural activities.
In a related development, Gov. Gaidam on Thursday donated 24 operational vehicles to the army and vigilante groups to facilitate the fight against insurgency.
He also announced allowance package to members of vigilante group to boost their morale and commitment in the war against insurgency. (NAN)
