Yola, Dec. 23, 2016 (NAN) Ahead of Christmas, the Catholic Diocese of Yola, on Friday distributed grains and other food items to female Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Yola.

Speaking at the occasion, the Bishop of the diocese, Bishop Stephen Mamza, said the gesture was to ensure that they also enjoy the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Mamza urged them to continue to have faith in God that things would be better.

“We pray that next year will be better than this year, and we want to assure you that the church will not abandon you,” Mamza said.

He urged government and other stakeholders to do more for the welfare of the IDPs including those that returned to their recaptured areas and were now struggling to pick up their lives once again.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Lami Danlami, thanked the Church for the sustained support given them.

Danlami also urged government agencies and other organisations involved in handling IDPs to emulate the method being use by the Church in ensuring orderliness in the distribution of items.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 2,500 women, mostly from Madagali Local Government Area, benefitted from the gesture.

Rice, Maize, Spaghetti and salt, among others, were presented to the women. (NAN)
