Lagos, May 16, 2017(NAN) A 68-year-old trader, Aishatu Mustapha, who allegedly obtained N2.2 million goods under pretence, was docked on Tuesday at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, who resides at Agege, a Lagos suburb, is being tried for stealing.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny, told the court that the offence was committed in April 2014 at Agege, Lagos.
Donny said the accused collected some goods valued at N2.2 million, on the pretence of selling and remitting the proceeds of the sales to the complainant, Alhaja Bamgboye’s account.
“Since then, the accused has been giving one form of excuse or the other; she failed to remit the money and also failed to return the goods,’’ he said.
Donny said that after the complainant could not take it anymore, she reported the case at the police station and the accused was apprehended.
The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Davies Abegunde, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Abegunde adjourned the case until May 22, for mention. (NAN)
