Woman, 40, docked for alleged break-in, theft of textiles

Lagos, April 11, 2017 (NAN) A 40-year-old woman, Oloyede Sola, on Tuesday appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court charged with breaking into a shop and stealing textiles valued at N54, 000.

Sola, whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to stealing charge.

But the prosecutor, Insp. Eruada Victor, said the accused committed the offence on March 22 at Makinde Street, Alausa, Ikeja.

Eruada said the accused broke into the shop of the complainant, Emmanuel Glory, to steal the textiles including ankara fabric valued at N54,000.

According to him, Sola was caught by the vigilance group in the area while stealing the textiles.

He said the tools such as a cutlass which were used to damage the door of the shop were recovered from her.

The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section stipulates three years for offenders.

The Magistrate, Mrs G.O. Anifowoshe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned until April 26 for mention. (NAN)
