Ibadan, March 7, 2018 (NAN) Mrs Omobolanle Olonisakin, the President of Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association,(DEPOWA),  on Wednesday pledged the support of the association in  the provision  of  social welfare to children, women and the aged in the society.

Olonisakin made the pledge while presenting gifts and cash to  Jesus Kids Autism Centre and Orphanage at Monatan in Ibadan.

The wife of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) said the gesture was the association’s  way of showing love and support to the needy and  vulnerable in the society.

Olonisakin called on philanthropists and other associations to reach out to the needy and vulnerable to alleviate their plight.

“DEPOWA is an association involving the wives of the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force and Police; basically what we do is to show love and give out humanitarian gifts to the needy,’’ she said.

According to her, no one should be allowed to suffer due to disability as “ there is ability in disability.’’

“We have been doing this in Abuja and Lagos; so we decided to visit Ibadan to show our love and care to the needy here, ’’ she said.

She commended the management of the orphanage for taking care of the children.

“I want to sincerely thank  the proprietress of this home for the good job because it takes someone with a big heart and a fear of God to take care of people who have challenges,’’ she said.

The proprietress, Mrs Ololade Adamolekun, thanked DEPOWA for the love shown to the 55 children of the home.

Adamolekun appealed to other similar associations to emulate DEPOWA, saying  the items presented would go a long way in solving some of the challenges in the home.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that  gifts  presented included  bags of rice, beans and  semovita as well as  beverages, toiletries, palm oil, vegetable oil, noodles and spaghetti.  (NAN)
