Yola, Dec. 15, 2016 (NAN) The Adamawa Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Malam Ahmad Sajoh, says Gov. Muhammadu Bindow decided to move weekly executive council meetings to rural areas to breach the gap between government and the governed.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Adamawa weekly executive council meetings were held in Numan, Fufore, Mubi and Guyuk Local Government Areas, respectively, in the past one month.
Sajoh explained that the governor used the opportunity to interact with the people.
He said that there was observed problem of disconnect between the government and the people which the Bindow administration felt must be address.
“There is a disconnect and we want to create a connect,” Sajoh said.
He explained that the meetings were being held in school halls in line with the government declaration of state of emergency on education in the state.
“Holding the meetings in the rural schools give us the opportunity to see the condition of the schools and to hear directly from teachers and principals what exactly are the problems.”
Sajoh said that apart from education, the other areas of priority being assessed during the meetings included roads, health, water, agriculture and poverty reduction.
“At our latest meeting in Guyuk, we adopted a water policy for Adamawa state and gave the Ministry of Water Resources the go ahead to work out an implementable framework to guide the implementation.”
Sajoh said that the meeting also looked at security in the state ahead of the yuletide, and all commissioners and other political office holders were sensitised and mobilised on how to alert their people to be more vigilant and security conscious during the period.
He said that the meeting also cautioned politicians on plying politics with security issues. (NAN)
