Asaba, Dec. 7, 2016 (NAN) The Speaker, Delta House of Assembly, Chief Monday Igbuya, on Wednesday said that the House will expedite actions on the bill against violence in public and private life of women.
The Speaker gave the assurance when he received the state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Omatsola Williams, who led NGOs, CSO and other groups on advocacy visit to the assembly.
The visit was part of activities to mark the international day of elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls held in Asaba.
Igbuya said that the House had always stood for the rights of women, adding that the female lawmakers in the House had never been denied of their protective rights.
The speaker, however, stated that it would be fairer if the protection of the male child was also held sacrosanct by members of the international communities.
In her remarks, Williams said that the 16-Day activities was a yearly international campaign earmarked for the elimination of violence against women.
She said that the campaign with the theme: “From peace in the home to peace in the world: Make education safe for all’’, was aimed at reducing violence against persons and to encourage participation of women and girls in peace building. (NAN)
