Osogbo, Nov. 24, 2016 (NAN) The General Manager, Osun Water Corporation, Mr Oluwole Owojuyigbe, has described water as man’s single most crucial natural endowment that must not be toyed with.
Owojuyigbe disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Osogbo while speaking on efforts by the corporation to ensure adequate supply of potable water to the citizens of the state.
“The importance of water as we all know can never be
over-emphasised; it determines the survival of virtually everything on earth.
“Because of its paramount purpose, it is incumbent on people to conserve it adequately and stop wasting it.
“Of course, contrary to that primordial belief that water is a free gift from nature, potable water now has some economic values considering what it takes to make it safe for consumption, “ he said.
Owojuyigbe commended the Osun State Government for resuscitating the moribund Head works at Ede, which he said was an integral source of water to Osogbo and its environs.
The general manager said the Head works was operating at less than 20 per cent output before the assumption of office of the present administration in Osun.
“The governor swung into action in the first 100 days of his
administration and increased the output to above 40 per cent output efficiency which was unprecedented in the history of the state.
“Also, an alternative power supply was made to cushion the adverse effects of the unstable power supply through the provision of three generating sets of 1.5kv capacity to the head works to guarantee adequate power supply, “ he said.
He stated that the alternative source of power had helped the people to improve their well being.
“As you know, the Head works remains the biggest in Osun with the capacity to pump about 1.8 million litres of water per day, which requires functional and efficient power supply, “ he said. (NAN)
