Katsina, Jan. 30, 2018 (NAN) Katsina State Government has pledged to assist Vilisco, a Holland company, to establish a textile factory in the state.

Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State made the pledge when he received the Chief Executive Officer of Vilisco Holland company, Mr David Suddens, who paid him a courtesy visit on Tuesday in Katsina.

Masari said “before the discovery of crude oil in Nigeria, Katsina State produce about 60 per cent of cotton production in the country.

“Investment in cotton is worthwhile for the people of Katsina State.”

The governor explained that huge market exist for Vilisco Holland wrappers as women in Nigeria cherished wearing such wrappers.

On the request for adequate energy for the textile factory to take off, Masari said government would do everything possible to ensure enough power supply in the state.

He, however, added that “even though the issue of providing adequate power supply had been of great concern to government, the current leadership is up to the task.

“So far, Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari achieved 7,200 megawatts in December 2017.”

Masari said Federal Government would established three energy projects in the state, comprising
two solar power energy and a wind-mill energy project.

He pointed out that a 33 KVA line would be established to boost power supply in Daura, Katsina and Kankara, noting that the minister of power, works and housing would be in Katsina to
inaugurate 33 KVA line in Funtua.

The governor, therefore, expressed optimism that Katsina State Government would satisfy the requirements of the Vilisco Holland company to establish the textile factory in the state.

Earlier, the chief executive officer of the company told the governor that the company had
been exporting its products to Nigeria.

He said the company planned to start spinning and weaving to produce wrappers in Nigeria to create jobs for the people, as it did in Côte d’Ivoire.

“Textile is a competitive business that needs uninterrupted energy: we want government to assist us
with effective power supply for maximum output,” he said. (NAN)
