  1. The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 1,200 personnel to beef up security of lives and property in liberated communities in North-East Nigeria.

Mr Abdullahi Gana the NSCDC Commandant General, said the troops consisting of counter terrorism, bomb detection and disposal and medical team had commenced simulation exercise ahead of their deployment to Borno, Yobe and Gombe states.

  1. The Federal Government says it will invest N72billion in the procurement and installation of power equipment to step up electricity generation by 2,000 megawatts.

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, said the Federal Government would invest the amount in its capacity as 40 per cent stakeholder in the Power Holder Company of Nigeria.

  1. Prof. Simon Irtwange, the National Coordinator, Technical Committee on Nigerian Yam Export Programme, says the committee has developed a four-year action plan targeting 10billion dollar earnings from yam export from 2017 to 2020.

Irtwange said the objective was to create an estimated one million jobs and earnings from yam export within the period.

  1. South Sudan’s parliament has voted to extend President Salva Kiir’s term in office until 2021 contrary to opposition groups who described the move as illegal.

The National Legislature led by its speaker Edward Makana declared the transitional constitution amendment passed.
