Abuja, April 19, 2017 (NAN) Prof. Sunday Ochoche, Executive Director, Victims Support Fund (VSF), has called for partnership with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to accurately educate the public on the ongoing interventions in the North-East.
Ocheche made the call when he visited the Managing Director of the Agency, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday in Abuja.
According to him, a lot of Nigerians are not aware of the real situation on ground in the North-East and are being misinformed.
He said that partnership with a reputable agency like NAN would help enhance the intervention activities and ongoing reconstruction in the region after the Boko Haram insurgency.
“A lot of Nigerians do not have a good understanding of the enormity of the situation.
“I want to encourage the News Agency of Nigeria and other media organisations to really continue to highlight the needs and challenges out there.
“They should also tell the victims that Nigerians have not left them alone, tell them of the Victim Support Fund where good Nigerians got together, made pledges and a good number of them have redeemed their pledges.
“They should also be reminded of the commitment of the government and kind individuals to end their plights and ensure they have a normal life once again’’, Ocheche said.
He called on individuals, organisations, government agencies, civil servants, who are charged with the responsibility of reconstructing and rehabilitating the North-East to do so diligently.
Responding, Onanuga lauded the VSF boss for the good job the foundation was doing in the recovery of the North-East and in rehabilitating the victims of insurgency.
He pledged the continuous support of the agency in publicising the interventions of the foundation by correctly informing the public on its activities.
Onanuga said that a lot of people have had the wrong conceptions about the mandates of the VSF and NAN will provide the foundation with a platform where such conception would be corrected.
He urged Ocheche to keep up with the good works and programmes geared toward providing durable solutions to the challenges facing victims of insurgency. (NAN)
