Port Harcourt, July 17, 2018(NAN) Prof. Ozo-merkuri Ndimele, the Vice-Chancellor of Ignatus Ijuru University of Education, Rivers, has expressed concern over attacks on students residing at the Ndelle campus of the university.
Ndelle campus is located in Rundelle, a community in Emohua Local Government Area of the state.
Ndimele told newsmen in Port Harcourt on Tuesday that students at the campus were regularly being attacked by criminals who had formed the habit of invading the hostels.
He said the university management would liaise with relevant government and community authorities to ensure an end to the attacks.
Reacting to the situation, Mr Tom Aliezi, Chairman, Emohua Local Government, said that plans were on to deal with the situation.
“We are already holding talks with the community leadership, this is a sad development; we must ensure that it does not continue.
“ To hear that students are being attacked is really a bad omen, we will do everything possible to ensure that the campus is secure for learning,’’ he said.
Some students of the university recently raised alarm over attacks on them by criminals.
The students had stated that their hostels were regularly invaded by criminals who harassed and robbed them of valuable items.
According to them, the activities of the criminals have made the university environment unconducive for learning. (NAN)
