Varsity: Ajimobi tasks founder on quality graduates, adequate funding

Ibadan, Jan. 5, 2016 (NAN) Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has charged the founder of Kola Daisi University (KDU) to ensure that the institution is well funded to maintain quality standard.

Ajimobi made the call at the inauguration of the Board of Trustees and Governing Council of the institution in Ibadan on Thursday.

The KDU, a private varsity founded by Chief Kola Daisi is located on Ibadan-Oyo expressway.

The governor tasked the owner on adequate funding, and called on its management to ensure that quality graduates were turned out from the institution.

“I implore the founder and the management of this school to ensure that quality graduates are produced.

“Maintaining and sustaining the quality you have created is another challenge that the school authority must look into.

“Nothing is free, to get quality, you must spend money,” the governor said.

He called on the founder and management not to promote the idea of awarding doctorate degrees to unworthy individuals, urging them to celebrate only those who have contributed positively to the development of the country.

Ajimobi commended the appointment of Professor Emeritus, Oladipo Akinkugbe, as the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the institution, saying he had no doubt that the school would turnout quality products.

The board members were; Prof Adeniyi Osuntogun, Chief Sherifat Kola-Daisi, Chief Akin Olujinmi, Mr Abiodun Salami, Chief Abiodun Kola-Daisi, Mrs Olasunmbo Obaseki and Mrs Ebun Delano.

The founder, Daisi said the school received the National University Commission(NUC) approval to operate on Nov. 22, 2016.

He said that Ajimobi played a huge role in the establishment of the university, having approved the land on which the institution was built.

Daisi said that the present infrastructure in the school would cover academic and accommodation requirement for the first 10 years.

“We have completed the first phase of the students’ accommodation requirements with the construction of the male and female halls. Each of them will accommodate 288 students each.

“The phase one construction gulped three billion Naira against the earlier estimation of one billion Naira projected by the chairman of the planning and implementation committee.

“Plans to ensure that resources are available to enable us to achieve the institution of our dream are already being designed and pursued,” he said.

Akinkugbe the new Chairman of the board assured that quality would not be sacrificed for mediocrity in the school, urging other members of the board to give their best for the growth of the school.

He announced Prof. Kolawole Jayeoba as the first Vice Chancellor of the school with a five year term.(NAN)
