Benin/Ile-Ife, May 15, 2017 (NAN) Candidates writing the ongoing Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) the second day have commended the management of board on the smooth conduct of the UTME.
A cross section of the candidates who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Benin and Ile-Ife said the exercise was a huge success compared with the 2016 exercise.
According to the candidates, aside the examiners arriving at the exam centres early for the examination, they also attended promptly to candidates’ complaints.
However, the candidates were unanimous on their call on the examination body to constantly upgrade their facilities to forestall some of the challenges being experienced by some of them.
They identified some of the challenges to include, non-functionality of some of the computer systems and poor network.
However, some of the candidates expressed displeasure at the monitoring device used by the examination body to detect unwanted items like mobile phones in possession of the candidates in Benin, Edo state.
Some of the Centres visited include, Da Civic Centre, Airport road, Daniiet Global Resources New Benin and Edo Government ICT Secretariat in Edo.
The examination is having three sessions, with the first at 7a.m, the second at 9a.m, with the third batch at 1.30p.m.
Also, the NAN Correspondent, who visited Kemade High Fliers Academy, Ondo Road, Ile-Ife, Osun, on Monday, revealed that the examination went on well smoothly without any hitch.
The two security officials at the centre thoroughly did the physical checking and screening of all candidates.
The candidates were later asked to thumbprint on a biometric computer system by a JAMB official, for verification before they were allowed into the main examination hall after presentation of their examination slips.
The centre did not experience any internet connection problem, nor power outrage during the examination at the centre because there was standby generator.
Dr Nasimot Surajudeen-Bakinde, the Technical Officer for the Centre, who spoke with NAN, commended the candidates and the staff for their co-operation.
She stated further that the centre was coordinated by 10 officials, five from JAMB and the other five from the centre and they were: Supervisors Biometric Verification officials, Technical Officials and two invigilators.
The technical official maintained that they all worked together to ensured the smooth conduct of the examination.
NAN reports that two Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), were also on ground to ensure security with additional two hired security men employed by the centre. (NAN)
