Matriculation
Calabar, Feb. 3, 2017 (NAN) The University of Calabar (UNICAL) on Friday matriculated 7,600 new students into the University for the 2016/17 academic session.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Zana Akpagu said that 20,178 candidates made the institution their first choice and scored above 180 in last year’s Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.
According to him, this qualified them to take part in the University’s Post UTME Screening Exercise.
“At the end of the exercise, only 7,600 were admitted. A breakdown of the figures showed that 65 per cent of the candidates were admitted into the departments that are science based.
“This include Medicine and Surgery while the remaining 35 per cent were admitted into Arts and Humanities, covering Education, Law, Social and Management Sciences,’’ he said.
The Vice Chancellor urged the newly matriculated students to read the rules and regulations of the institution and comply accordingly during the duration of their studies .
Akpagu warned them against cultism and other anti-social vices, adding that the university authority would not hesitate to dismiss any student who indulges in any act capable of tarnishing the image of the school.
He called on the students to support the school authourity in its effort to improve facilities for conducive teaching and learning environment. (NAN)
